Ecuador

Ecuador, one of the world's most diverse countries in relation to its size, holds great amounts of nature and is home to the Galapagos Islands. Explore the marine life by scuba diving or bird watching on land. Tour the Amazon Rain Forest with natures wonders.

Default Dining in Ecuador

Hi,

I love to try new foods and it has become one of the best parts of my trips or quite possibly a majority of the reason I travel at all. :D I'd like to know a few things about the food in Ecuador:

1. What types of foods should I expect to find?

2. Any recommendations of traditional meals

3. Cost of typical meals?

4. Anything I should watch out for? Safety wise or must try.

Any advice would be great!

Here's my recommendations:

1. What types of foods should I expect to find?
rice, potatoes and meat as the basic staples. But they have an incredible diversity of food at cheap pirces.

2. Any recommendations of traditional meals
* cuy - guinea pig
* Fritada - roast pork, corn, cheese, avocado, potatoes and plantains
* locro - a combined cheese, avocado and potatoes soup
* humitas - cornmeal tamales

3. Cost of typical meals?
Expect to spend 1/2 or 1/3 of what you would in the US.

4. Anything I should watch out for? Safety wise or must try.
