Ecuador car rental tips

Hello,

During our trip in Ecuador we are thinking to rent a car and explore part of the country on our own. I know it seems a bit to brave but we'd like to do it regardless. Have you guys got any Ecuador car rental tips?

hi there,

To make renting a car a smooth experience in Ecuador here are some tips:

- Make sure your current license will be valid during the period you will be renting a car.

- Only pay for deposit if the rental company requires it.

- Learn the traffic signs and driving laws in Ecuador before getting there.

- Get car insurance with the rental. Normally, if you pay the car rental with a credit card, it may also cover insurance, but it will only be valid for 30 days.

No we didn't rent a car in the end but found buses quite useful

hi,

Try not to look too much like a tourist by carrying a map and a camera on plain view of people so, you don't become a target for thieves.

If you need to check your map and take pictures try and do it in a discreet manner.
