You don't have to drive for hours or head into the wild to enjoy a kayak outing in South Florida. There are good neighbourhood kayaking spots such as the coastal Biscayne Bay.

There are several ways to kayak Biscayne Bay, either with a tour or by yourself, though with a guided tour you can explore the historic sights from Madonna's former residence to the Vizcaya mansion.

You can also enjoy the natural sandbar off the coast or the Sister and Grove Islands as well as man-made attractions like canals and bridges.

You can get kayak rentals at Crandon Park and explore the Bear Cut area where you will be able to see lost of marine life like sting rays, tropical fish and, dolphins.

It depends where you mean "South Florida...there is Atlantic and eastern side, Gulf of Mexico and western side, the Everglades in the central, and Florida Keys to the south--my favorite and with many options.

Default kayaking in Crystal River

you can take a kayaking or canoeing trip along the Crystal River, and launch your boat at Kings Bay. There is Free parking and launch (with bathrooms!) is available at Hunter Spring Park which is just the turn on Citrus Ave from 19.

Once you launch (to the right into the bay) it's just a little bit to pass by Pete's Marine and the next inlet leads to 3 Sisters spring and Gator Hole.

I think the southwest side is great. The Gulf isn't as rough st the Atlantic side plus the everglades and estuaries are pretty cool.

Miami Dade Parks offers a ton of kayaking excursions. They do a lot more than just clean up the parks and offer some soccer games. They also watch over one of Miami's biggest historic house museums, the Deering Estate at Cutler. It's right on Biscayne Bay and is a starting point for some cool guided kayaking tours.

Default kayaking in South Florida

anyone mentioned Broward County? there is a cool natural kayak trail called Whiskey Creek in John Lloyd State Park in Dania Beach. There, you can rent kayaks in the park or launch your own from the park’s marina.

Default water sports in South Florida

Peanut Island is another destination in the MacArthur Park area worth checking out if you are kayaking from Munyon Island. Saying this, this isn't really suitable for newbies since you’ll be crossing an area heavily trafficked by speedboats, but the good thing about Peanut Island is that it's great for snorkeling.

Red face kayaking in the Keys

Bahia Honda State Park is one great spot for kayaking especially if you aren't bringing your own kayaks as you can rent them at the park. Another spot in the Keys is Big Pine Key at the Old Wooden Bridge Cabins. From there, you will be able to book guided kayaking tours for around $50 for three hours, and rents kayaks as well.
