| Moderator Jr Member | Communities across Florida are gathering together to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Flagler railroad. If it weren't for Henry Flagler and his railroad, the Florida we know today might not be there. From Jacksonville to Key West, the engineer, financier and visionary changed the fortunes of Florida. The Over-Sea Railroad set sail in 1912 and opened much of the state to tourism. In Palm Beach, you can visit his elegant estate, now the Flagler Museum.

| Henry Flagler is a legend of the 20th century...the Over-Sea Railroad's track stretched more than 100 miles out into open water (imagine that back in the early 1900's). Im told there will be sections of the Custom House exhibit which will feature a re-created Florida East Coast railcar and a replica of a section of the Seven Mile Bridge. Can't wait for the upcoming 100th anniversary of the inaugural train's Key West arrival on Jan. 22, 2012. |

| the Flagler Museum is one of the most interesting museums in Florida. I visited it last month and my favorite room was the musical room downstairs with built-in organ. My only problem was the admission price: we adults paid $18 while our kids $10 each we seemed a little steep. |

| Moderator Jr Member | That was quite the engineering marvel a century ago. A lot of people thought Flagler was nuts, but he was a visionary and worked to make everything happen. Yikes, that is rather steep for museum admission. I understand why they charge so much, but it's not fun to pay that much.

| There is a contest going on right now at fla-keys.com/flagler-centennial that showcases the big anniversary. Prizes include overnights at the Postcard Inn and the Casa Marina in Key West, an air travel gift card and car rental certificate. Also, admission to Pigeon Key, an island that once was home to railroad workers and other attractions is included. You have until January 22 to enter, and winners will be announced on the 25th! |
