| For visitors planning to be in Tampa on January 28, put aside some time to take in the annual Gasparilla Pirate Invasion. In this event that's been celebrated for over 100 years, the wily pirates make their way to Tampa in their decorative pirate ship flying the Jolly Roger to take over the keys to the city. Festivities before and during the invasion include a marathon, children's parade, and the night parade. On invasion day, the parade route along Bayshore Boulevard leading into downtown Tampa is full of pirates, their krewes and floats as they make their way into the city where partying goes on into the night. If you're lucky, you'll catch one of the thousands of colorful bead necklaces being shared from the pirate's treasure chests.

| im definitely heading to Tampa for the Gasparrilla invasion to see the pirate ship filled with hundreds of fully dressed pirates with explosive canons. By the way, this is taking place in Tampa Bay at around 11:30am when they pirate boat will make its way through the waters between Davis and Harbour Islands. |

| Great! The more the merrier! It's definitely a party atmosphere with thousands of people lining the way. For those who've never attended, be prepared for crowds, limited parking, and traffic jams after the parade. Plan accordingly and allow plenty of time to arrive and depart. All in all, it's definitely worth it to be in the midst of the celebrations and to savor the flavor of Tampa.

| is it really back? I thought Gasparilla celebration wouldn't happened after what happened last year. There were big crowds in early Jan 2011 and everyone was having a good time until local police officers spoilt the party. Cops arrested over 350 people for their debauchery which apparently wasn't allowed. I thought that was so ridiculous..debauchery? what about Fantasy Fest or Las Vegas show girls, and sleazy bars. Typical double standards if you ask me. |
