France Great food and wine are just some of what France has in store. Prior to 1930, the Eiffel Tower stood as the tallest structure in the world and is the icon of Paris. Housing some of the most spectacular works of art is the Louvre with over 35,000 pieces. For more culture visit the Palace of Versailles but for outdoor activities, every July the Tour de France runs through the country.

Bonjour! My future host family has invited me to go skiing with them in the Alpes in February next year. They told me it costs 550euros per person. They're going for 5 days, and the cost includes skiing passes, beds, meals, insurance, ski hires etc... This is probably a very stupid question, but I know nothing about skiing... Do you think they mean 550euros per day or for the whole 5 days? It seems so expensive if its per day, yet too cheap if its for the 5 days. I feel too embarrassed to ask my host family. they'll probably think i'm weird! Any answers would be appreciated!

Unfortunately you're probably going to be spending the $500 per day. Skiing in the Alps is expensive and with the US dollar exchange rate it doesn't make things much better. It doesn't sound like you're a skiier so why would you want to learn there? you could consider going on the trip and not skiing which would save a load of cash. Just some thoughts.

First it is 550 euros not dollars, which means about 700 dollars. It cannot be per day but for the whole stay skiing can be expensive in some posh ski resorts true, otherwise you find a lot with pretty good rates particularly for students

3 years ago I booked a last minute: 400 Euro for a week, in a 2 star hotel with half board so according to me that price is definetely for all the 5 days Also, I must argue that Feb is low season ( here in the Italian Alps... I don't know if in France is the same ) and this year there was not enough snow, so the hotels had to undersell their rooms

Hi Kiwi Girl I am sure it would be €550 for the week. Yes skiing holidays can be expensive but if they don't have to break the bank. This would be a usual breakdown of costs in Chamonix: Accommodation in Feb: €175-250 per person (this would reduce if your group is large and depends on the quality of the accommodation) Ski Hire: €100 Insurance - you can get annual multitrip insurance for €50 Ski Pass €150 Evening Meals: €25 per night (If you are self catering this would obviously be left or if you are in a fully catered chalet this would be included in original cost) Day Meal & Drinks €15 Evening entertainment: Dependant on what you do I hope this helps - have fun!!

Yes, if you're in a group, the costs (particularly for accommodation) can be split and come out much cheaper. I too am sure they must mean 550 euros for the 5 days. I learnt to ski in the Alps, and like you was there with a host family. It's a great place to learn to ski. ---
