| Junior Member | Hi everyone, I know there are a lot of hotels in Paris and that is exactly why i am asking for recommendations - i have never been to Paris and am looking for inexpensive but not "scary" hotels that are clean, comfortable, and in the heart of everything. I was told to fly in to CDG, get a taxi to the hotel and then walk to all the sights. I dont think I can walk to ALL of them but will walk to some. Fore example I want to go to the Louvre, Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, Champs Elysees, and then also to Normandy and Mont St Michel (which I will probably need a car for...or do I take a train? Not sure how to do that - any advice?). DO I need to stay overnight in Normandy for that trip? Any recommendations for a place to stay in Normandy? I also will go to Reims for the day for champagne tasting at Mumm, but I see this is only an hour or so away so I will rent a car for that trip as well. Any and all advice for my trip which will be my first trip to France and also my birthday is appreciated - i am traveling in April. Thank you! |

| Hi there, Paris is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, with 45 million tourists every year in the Paris Region. There are numerous iconic landmarks among its many attractions, along with world-famous institutions and popular parks. Staying in Hostels is the best way to go to save money in Paris (starting at about $10-30 a night). If you’d prefer a private room, try the Hotel de Lille Pelican near the Louvre. It’s a smaller hotel down a side street. This is a popular hotel solely for its location. There are many Cheap hotels in Paris, and with a little walking and haggling you can get yourself a good deal. Also, some of the cheapest hotels are Ajiel Hotel and Yllen Eiffel Hotel within walking distance of the Eiffel tower. It is recommended 5 to 6 day for the Normandy tour to cover all aspects of the D-Day Landings. Domaine de l’Hostriere is a very well priced hotel ($25 per night) and close to the Normandy sites. Hope this helps VacationBuddy Last edited by VacationBuddy; 02-24-2009 at 02:02 PM. Reason: more info added |

| Hi Colleen, I travel to Paris about 6 times a year. I go for business but also to visit family that lives there. Sometimes I stay a different hotels but often I stay in a little studio my family owns. I taxi from CDG to central paris will cost about 60 euros. I recommend taking the train. It is about 30 minutes faster but you will have to do some walking. It's only about 11 euros. Often I take the RER and then go to a Metro station dirrectly on the line and then take a taxi to my hotel. The taxi from there will only cost about 10 euros and aside from a little walking (note: suitcases). It is probably the fastest and best way to go. I recommend staying in the Notre Dame and St Germain areas of Paris. This area is central to most of the attractions you will want to visit and is especially romantic and perfect for really experiencing Paris. Driving in Paris is a bit scary if you've never been. It's also time consuming due to rental times, getting gas (which is super expensive), and finding parking. The public transportation in France is superb and you will travel more conveniently using the Metro, RER (train), Bus and Taxi system. My favorite hotel which is not super cheap but not expensive is called the The Five Hotel. You can also search in google for "boutique hotel paris" and find excellent Parisian hotels that are charming, magical and inexpensive (often). You mention not wanting to walk everywhere, but you will want to take the Metro system everywhere. It's hop on and hop off. Renting a car there will not serve you! Especially around the Arc of Triomph. Good luck and happy birthday. -DK |
