France

Great food and wine are just some of what France has in store. Prior to 1930, the Eiffel Tower stood as the tallest structure in the world and is the icon of Paris. Housing some of the most spectacular works of art is the Louvre with over 35,000 pieces. For more culture visit the Palace of Versailles but for outdoor activities, every July the Tour de France runs through the country.

Smile France Wine Tasting

We are looking for some great wine tours when we visit the first week of May, 2007. Please respond with some winery names close to Nice, France. We are staying mid town.

How close to Nice would these have to be? I'm assuming fairly close since you mentioned where in Nice you're staying. Would the Cotes du Rhone region be too far gone? It's a 3-4 hour drive to Avingon from Nice, but that region is world-renowned for its wine.

As for something perhaps within the city limits (or not far beyond), here are a couple:
Château de Cremat
Château de Bellet

I believe these both conduct tours if you let them know you're coming. Nice isn't really known for its wine prowess though, so I can't vouch too much for either.

True for Nice and her area as fas as wine is concerned. Otherwise Nice is by Provence which hosts the famous Côtes de Provence in the Var departement. You can find pretty good wines there. Go as far as Bandol and you'll hit the big thing in a wonderful setting too. True the Rhone Valley has excellent wines too but it is too far from Nice.
Go to a site with vinsdeprovence and .com and you will find 31 pages of wineries, I am convinced you will find your luck:
(they have an English version of their site)
"Carpe Diem" at Cotignac is gorgeous, nut there are dozens of them. Pick up the places on a map, build your own route and go at random, you'll definitely have good surprises !
