Atlanta has a lot of locations for canoeing, kayaking, and whitewater rafting like the Chattahoochee River, Lake Lanier, Ocoee River, and Lake Chatuga but unless you travel to the southern region along the barrier islands, you won’t find any oceanfront beaches. Along the eastern coast, choose from St Simons, Little St Simons, Tybee , Jekyll, Cumberland, Sapelo, Wolf, St Catherines, Ossabaw, and Wassaw for true beach action directly on the Atlantic Ocean. From the list, St Simons, Tybee, and Jeykll are the best known. The drive from Atlanta to the islands can take anywhere from four or more hours but it’s worth it.

One good spot from Atlanta is Robin Lake at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain which is about 2 hours from Atlanta, but worth the trip if you ask me. alternatively, you could go to Hard Labor Creek State Park which has a beach, though it's not the greatest it's cheap and not too far.
