Smile Moving to Atlanta

I'm looking to relocate to Atlanta, can anybody tell me,
Where are the best places to live?
Where are the best schools for kids?
Where are the shopping spots?
Do it snow a lot in the winter?

If you love Atlanta, what do you love about it?
or
If you hate Atlanta, tell me what you hate about it?

Can someone please help me out?

I live in the metro Atlanta area and love it. Some of your questions would be difficult to answer without a little bit more detail. For example - if you will be working what part of Atlanta is your job located in? Atlanta is surrounded by some great metro communities - but it is very large in size and you don't want to be driving a long distance to work. The traffic can be a bit much to handle in certain areas.

Do you prefer the hustle of the city or do you like a quieter community?

As far as Atlanta itself - it has come a long way in the past 10-15 years. Some people love being in the city and there are now some great choices for dining and entertainment. Shopping is not great in the city but is getting better. The best shopping places are spread out and not within the city. Though there is Underground Atlanta which is cool. There is a lot to do within the city - The Georgia Aquarium, World of Coca-Cola, and the Olympic Centennial Park are a few things. Concerts and music are plentiful and there are some great taverns and bars as well.

A lot of people still drive in Atlanta and there are a lot of parking lots. There is also public transportation on Marta - but it won't get you to all of the places outside of the city - it is limited.

Schools - This is one of the things where it is important to know why you are moving here, where you will work, etc. I would definitely recommend one of the suburbs. There are some great areas north of Atlanta - Roswell and Alpharetta to name a couple. I live northwest in Cherokee County - this area still has a very southern, country appeal. The schools are good, traffic is not bad. The area is growing quickly - the choices for restaurants and shopping are becoming fantastic.

There are many great suburbs of Atlanta that have everything you need. I am approximately 25 minutes from 2 great shopping malls and anything else that might be missing here in Canton.

The weather is fantastic. Our winters are short and we only have a few really cold spells. It does not snow often - we usually see light snow about twice, though we have had none yet this year. Once in a while we will have what we call a major snow storm. I wear shorts or skirts from late March to November most years here. It does get a little too hot sometimes, especially in July or August - though this year was not bad.

I love Atlanta for it's warmth and hospitality, the great weather, beautiful change of seasons and the "country" feel. I love the fact that almost anything I want to do is close enough to get to. I love having a major airport that has flights to almost anywhere.

The only thing I don't like about Atlanta is that they don't have a major league soccer team.

If either of you can provide me with more details like the location of where you might be working then I would be glad to provide you with more details on that specific area.

I hope this was of some help!

Thank You, This information was helpful. I'm sorta looking for the quiet party of the city or maybe a mixer of quiet and action...LOL I don't want to be bored, but I guess there is not a boring moment in Atlanta:-)
I don't have a job there yet, but looking to work in the Atlanta area, or in my case whoever would give me a job.

I was thinking about living in the Jonesboro or College Park or Alpharetta area.
I'm looking to be in the area of Great shopping and Great Schools.

Thanks!

That's pretty good information. I don't really have much to add to what dakota said but you could also do some searches on Google, I'm sure you'll find more good info. Good luck with moving to Atlanta!
