Munich Oktoberfest tips

We're deciding to visit Germany this autumn and plan to travel in late September to catch Oktoberfest. Have you got any Munich Oktoberfest tips? Is it worth looking for accommodation around the city at this stage?

At this late stage of the year, you will find hard finding affordable and even, accommodation in Munich, as they go fast, very fast.

In Munich, cheap hotels fill up months ahead of time – and even these locations usually raise their prices during the final weeks of September.

Having said this, I have a few Munich Oktoberfest tips to help you out. Look for accommodation a side street away from the main grounds of Theresienwiese, as many hotels here have a place to stow your car during Oktoberfest.

Alternatively, avoid downtown Munich as making use of the subway system is a good way to cut down on cost and also a great way to find a wider range of hotels.

I would add some simple things like have fun and don't worry about the prices. The local breweries set the prices and they're rather high, but how many chances to you get to drink beer in Munich in October?

If you're a smoker, you'll need to know that smoking is no longer allowed in restaurants in Bavaria, and this includes beer tents. Most tents will have an outdoor smoking section, but there wont' be any tables.

The locals love to visit two tents: Heimer's Roasted Duck and Chicken and Hippodrom that serves a sparkling wine.
