Germany

Germany has rich culture tradition and beautiful landscapes. The famous Oktoberfest can be experienced starting in September through October. For those traveling in the Christmas season, be sure to stop by Kris Kringle Mart. Only hours away from Munich are resorts in Germany and ski areas are best found at the Bavarian Alps.

Default Traveling to Romantic Road in December?

I am going to Germany in early December and staying in Eching which is just north of Munich. I would like to take my girlfriend to the "Romantic Road" but don't know what my options are. Is my best bet just to rent a car? Please advise the best options to and from the Romantic Road as well as traveling along it. Thank you!

Also, please recommend any other places to visit that have very nice scenery and is romantic maybe in Munich, Berlin, Neuschwanstein Castle, Cologne, Lake Constance, or Bavaria. Thank you!

You could do a northern loop: Eching - Augsburg - Romantic Road - Rothenburg ob der Tauber - Eching
or a southern loop: Eching - Augsburg - Romantic Road - Fussen Germany - Eching. Map.
Or you could just visit Rothenburg ob der Tauber or Füssen/Neuschanstein directly,
without exploring the Romantic Road any further (which connects romantic place but otherwise is a rather normal country road). Germany's most famous and popular tourist route runs for 350 romantic kilometres across a rich and varied cultural landscape along the river Main and through the Franconian wine country to the Alps.
This fantastic route between Würzburg and Füssen offers visitors the opportunity to see small historic towns with impressive buildings and places of historical interest that have lost nothing of their original charm.
Neuschwanstein Castle , royal palace in the Bavarian Alps of Germany,
the most famous of three royal palaces built for Louis II of Bavaria,
sometimes referred to as Mad King Ludwig, who grew up nearby at Hohenschwangau Castle.
The castle of Neuschwanstein was built in the style of the late romanesque period of the early 13th century.
This style is obvious in the construction of the building as a whole as well in its ornamentation: the round arched portals,
the arcade windows and towers, the position of columns and its bay windows and pinnacles.
Cologne Germany where the cathedral spires tower over Germany's oldest city and its innumerable cultural and historical treasures,
world-famous museums and active art scene. The world feels at home in Cologne, where people meet for a Kölsch, a chat or simply a laugh. Life in Cologne is uncomplicated and vivacious.
Lake Constance known as Bodensee by the Germans, is located between Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
On the Swiss side are the famous Rhine falls, best reached from Schaffhausen. The lake area has one of the warmest summer microclimates in the country.
There are many outdoor activities that one can do including water sports sailing and hiking.
Many beautiful resort towns along its shores notably Meersburg which is surrounded by vineyards and which has half-timbered houses and the oldest castle in Germany.
You can also visit the islands of Mainau (lush tropical vegetation) and Reichenau (ancient monastery) near Konstanz at the western end of the lake or Lindau or Bregenz at the eastern end if you have a chance.
There is ferry service across the lake from Friedrichshafen into Switzerlland.
The The Black Forest Germany's most popular tourist regions, but these days, the Black Forest has lost some of its appeal, even though it has regained its status as an unspoiled,
natural area thanks to vigorous environmental protection programs. Apart from walking, hiking, and (in winter) some modest skiing,
Black Forest attractions include the historic university town of Freiburg in the far Southwest -- one of the most colorful and hippest student cities in Germany.
The Bavarian Alps lie along the German–Austrian border in a thin sliver of land roughly 300km long.
Crammed into this area is some of the most spectacular walking and beautiful scenery that Germany has to offer.
The region is also home to picturesque villages and towns, and to King Ludwig’s world-famous fairy-tale castles.
Reasonable prices and an excellent tourist infrastructure make the Bavarian Alps the perfect destination for an easy-to-organise and affordable walking holiday.
