Oktoberfest tent reservations

Is it necessary to have a reservation at a table to get served beer? Never been there, planning to in 2008. I keep reading that you should arrive before 11:30 a.m. to get into the tents. If you already have a reservation, is it still necessary to arrive before 11:30 or Noon?
How does one obtain a reservation, if we are only a group of 5 people? If we can't get reservations, is it still possible to get served inside the tents?

everything need reservation,it is convenient and easy for your futher work,for example,if you want to travel in other country,you have no reservation hotel and trip line,it is very difficult to travel,is not it so?

No reservations for tables are necessary, but book your hotel as early as possible!

I thought it was time to update this post! Oktoberfest is going on right now in Munich! There will be 14 beer tents and plenty of room for everyone who wants to sample the local brews.

It looks like you don't need reservations to enjoy the Oktoberfest beer tents. But prepared to pay more. The prices went up this year to 8.70€ and 9.20€ per liter.

I forgot to add that if you do want to plan ahead, it's smart to make your Oktoberfest reservations for your hotels as soon as possible. If you're planning on next year, it's never too early to make your reservations. Several million people enjoy Oktoberfest.
