I have been wanting to visit Germany for years and was wondering if anybody knew of any good tours at a decent price. I would like to see many parts of the country such as Berlin, Cologne, the black Forest upon other places. Would it be better to take a tour or go by myself and try to drive around seeing the different places. Thanks

| Hi there, Germany possesses a wealthy tradition and a vibrant culture and every where you go it will excite you. West Germany enjoys a warm climate with mild winters, cool summers, and a fair amount of rain year-round. While in East Germany, the temperatures vary a bit more widely, with colder winters and hotter summers. Berlin and Cologne are the best points for starting your vacation in Germany with a rich history and old cultural heritage. Also, the Black Forest is a major attraction due to its vineyards and castles You would benefit from a guided tour but you could also follow an itinerary and discover for yourself the wonders that Germany has to offer. Please have a look at this link for suggested itinerary of Germany: http://www.destination360.com/europe...nerary-germany Hope this helps VacationBuddy Last edited by VacationBuddy; 02-09-2009 at 02:04 AM. | Hi, To see different parts of Germany I think that a tour would be your best bet. Tour companies pick out the most famous and favourite spots and you don't have to worry about the travel arrangements. Later you could go and visit more in depth those places that appealed to you the most. There is something to be said for tours and individual travel - I like to do both. |

Hi Spaniola, Germany is a wonderful place to visit. The best time is in summer or Autum (avoid the school holidays around August though). Getting around Germany is very easy by train, you can pre-purchse tickets called Eurail or Interail, which give you flexibility with dates and destinations. Germany's train system is one of the best in the world, and is a breeze to use. As for an organised tour, there are plenty of Contiki's or Topdeck travel tours that are worth looking into, although they are a bit rigid... you'll end up getting up at 7am some mornings just to visit a major tourist attraction with hundreds of others. But they are FUN. Hope that helps!

You can purchase in advance some package with the train to travel inside Germany on a fixed price, no matter where you go. Cologne is very well connected with low cost airlines and from there you can go wherever you want.

Hi, I have been to Germany as an independent traveler, and I was in Germany in 2005 on a tour. I would definitely recommend it, because on a tour, you don't have to worry about logistics in terms of getting to each destination. I personally do not feel comfortable driving in a foreign country, and language barriers can sometimes make it a little more difficult to manage the trains. It is nice to have someone else take care of the details for you. Have fun!
