Germany

Germany has rich culture tradition and beautiful landscapes. The famous Oktoberfest can be experienced starting in September through October. For those traveling in the Christmas season, be sure to stop by Kris Kringle Mart. Only hours away from Munich are resorts in Germany and ski areas are best found at the Bavarian Alps.

Question Germany: Cost of rail travel

Hello. I'm considering a trip to Germany in August. Can anyone tell me approximately how much a round trip train ticket (return) between Frankfurt and Munich would cost? All i can find on search engines is info on rail passes, which seem more appropriate for visiting numerous cities or weekend travel only. We would only be travelling between Frankfurt and Munich and our stay is for 4-5 days.

It depends on the day, 1st or 2nd Class, specials, routing, etc but general pricing is going to be about 30-80 Euro each way.

Bahn.de is the official transportation page and will be able to get you from just Frankfurt to Munich (and back, if need be). I'm linking you to the English version; they have other languages available. It does look like you can't book too far in advance, at least on their website, so for a date as far ahead as August, you may want to call in order to get a quote. I imagine the people you'd speak with would be able speak English well enough.

The problem I have with Bahn is there website is so confusing! its really difficult to navigate. If you go to Rail Pass and select " City-to-City Tickets" on left side its real easy to book a ticket and the pricing is no different.

If you plan on making several stops I think the most cost effective way is to pickup a German Rail Pass. You can choose from 4-10 days of travel within a one month time period at a fraction of the cost of purchasing each one individually.

if you don't need a pass, you might consider point to point tickets...but if you're going to travel several trips, a pass is best
