Hawaii

Hawaii is made up of many islands and is frequented by many around the world. The popular Waikiki area has everything from hotels, Waikiki Beach, and shopping. Conveniently, inter-island flights are quick and easy. Visit Maui and make a stop at the Haleakala Crater, providing incredible hiking trails or head over to the Big Island and experience the Big Island Helicopter Tour.

Default Hawaii Earthquake - Our Earthquake in Hawaii Experience

We were staying in Kihei on Maui when the earthquake happened about 7am. A group of us about 10 people immediately took cover and waited for the shaking to subside and shortly after another came.

My guess at the time was about a 5 but later hearing it was a 6.7 surprised us. Our villa was right on the water so immediately our concern was of a Tsunami so we kept an eye on the the ocean. By 9am we had friends that needed to catch flights so they left for the airport but since the power was out the roads and airport was a complete mess.

Jenn and I "my new wife", were traveling to our honeymoon in Hana so we decided to wait a bit since The Hana Hotel reported that the Hana Highway was closed. I looked into a flight to Hana but at 100.00 PP one way and not having out rental car didn't appeal to me. About noon we left and immediately came across rock falls. Later in the drive the road was reduced to one lane in several spots because of the severity

Here's a photo of the Hana Highway landslides.

We are safe in Hana and its a beautiful place. I'll be posting up virtual tours later..

Wow, good to hear things are okay. Nice timing on the trip, and at least you weren't on the Big Island!
