hi there,

Wildlife sanctuaries are located all throughout India, so regardless of what part of the country you're traveling in, you should have no trouble finding a wildlife preserve to visit.

For instance, the state of Kerala, home to the city of Trivandrum, has several sanctuaries, including the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary and the Thattekad Bird Sanctuary.

If you're spending time in Jaipur, in the state of Rajasthan, you might visit the Sambhar Wildlife Sanctuary, and in Uttar Pradesh, where Shimla is located, you can consider the National Chambal Sanctuary and the Kishanpur Sanctuary, among others.

India has over 441 animal sanctuaries, known as nature sanctuaries (IUCN category IV protected area). Of these, 28 Tiger Reserves are governed by Project Tiger, and are of particular importance to tiger conservation. Some wildlife sanctuaries are named Bird Sanctuary, for example. Keoladeo National Park before reaching the national park status. Many national parks were first wildlife reserves.

There are many more wild life sanctuaries. Kerala is the best place to visit and has most of the sanctuaries.

Default Mudumalai / Bandipur area

nice list of wildlife sanctuaries in India...Mudumalai / Bandipur are my favorite areas to see wildlife. The area has some of the largest remaining population of Asian elephants, and it is hard not to see them (at least in the couple of times I was in the south of India). I prefer the Mudumalai area, although it has been taken over by a weed that makes viewing wildlife more difficult.
