If you want to get the full experience in Ireland, you need to get out of the city and see the countryside. You can make Dublin your base and visit places like Cork, Galway, Cliffs of Moher and Kilkenny on day trips. Having said this, if you want to soak the real Ireland, staying in Dublin isn't the best bet, even though, Dublin has wonderful restaurants and many museums. As a suggestion, you could probably base yourself in Cork, rent a car and visit Dublin on a day trip or two days to visit the top attractions. Some of the places you want to miss are the Waterword Crystal Factory, the "ring of Kerry", Jameson Distillery, the Guinness Factory and enjoying an Irish dance at a local village pub.

I think a great way would be to start out in Cork and go around with local transport. (There are buses, but not very frequent - then again the slow pace and the landscape go great together).

Base yourself in Cork and tour Cork and Kerry. This part of Ireland is generally regarded as the best for scenery and tradition and always guarantees a great time. You can easily jump on a train for a day visit to Dublin or Galway if you wish, but Cork and Kerry are by far the most popualr toursit attractions. You can really sample these at any time of year. there is always a good 'craic' to be found. Cork's nightlife and shopping is second to none and Kerry's scenery is unrivaled. Choose your tour operator carefully. I don't think I'm allowed to promote my business but have a look around for the best prices!

Ireland has a lot things to offer. You can base yourself anywhere you want either Dublin or Cork, but remember one thing, Ireland is not in cities, its in the countryside. You will see true Ireland there. Places like Shannon Island region, Count Kerry, Limerick, Cliff Of Moher, Bunratty Castle......there are a lot of places that you should visit.I am sure you will fall in love with that country.
