getting around in Naples

hi,

what is the transportation like in Naples, is it expensive? and would you recommend car rental? Also, what would be the most convenient way to travel to Rome for a day trip?

hi there,

I wouldn't suggest car rental for getting around in Naples, only if you plan to explore the area around and day trips. Otherwise, public transportation in Naples is great.

For instance, the Naples trains run to a variety of destinations around the city, including the Piazza del Plebiscito, Santa Lucia and the Castel dell'Ovo, and the Royal Palace, and many popular hotels and restaurants have metro stations very close by.

To get to Rome, there is a direct high-speed train and slow train between the two cities. Obviously, the direct train is quicker taking two hours but the slower train is cheaper. Regardless, what train you choose, do book train seats in advance to guarantee a seat.
