Italy Art, History, and thousands of years of modern culture can be found in Italy. At the beautiful city of Venice you can experience the Venice Carnevale. Visit the Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel in the Vatican Museum. Visit the Trevi Fountain and experience the fable power. Lean with the Leaning Tower Of Pisa or stand with the Statue of David.

Hey guys, I'm new...I needed to get some people's opinions on Italy. I am planning on spending 4-5 months (January-May region) in Italy, but I haven't been able to find 'the' place. I don't want somewhere touristy, so Rome, Venice, etc. are out. I also don't want something too modern...I love the 'old' and 'simple' feel...so nothing too technologically advanced, either. Has anyone been anywhere that might qualify?

| Well, I only spent the day there, but Montalcino was one of the most amazing places I have been to. Not sure if your time frame is etched in stone, but depending on what time of year you will be there, I highly recommend at least visiting there. We were there in October during the Festival of the Thrush and it was the highlight of a two week trip. Over all I would suggest Tuscany/Umbria. My husband and I are going back to Italy next month and will be in Assisi, Bologna, Perugia . . . I will be sure to let you know if any of these places are worthy of a visit (let along a long stay). Have a great trip.

One of the most beautiful places in Europe is the Isle of Capri. I was there in the summer and there were a lot of tourists but I would think that in the off season it would not be so crowded. It may be too "touristy" for you but I feel the need to tell you a little about it. It rises out of the Mediterranean Sea and has the feel of a Mediteranean paradise with the blue water and white cliffs. We had a great time walking though the old villas and then stopping by a cafe/bar to try the ice cold lemoncilla that is made there. It is a wonderous place that I would love to revisit.

Have you ever thought that italy can accommodate any request ? Yes it really does: in fact if you want to stay outside of the beaten paths you can join regions like Umbria which is located in the center of Italy between Rome and Tuscany with Assisi an Perugia worthing more than a visit.
