Italy

Art, History, and thousands of years of modern culture can be found in Italy. At the beautiful city of Venice you can experience the Venice Carnevale. Visit the Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel in the Vatican Museum. Visit the Trevi Fountain and experience the fable power. Lean with the Leaning Tower Of Pisa or stand with the Statue of David.

Default Accommodation Advice - Rome: Spanish Steps or Campo dei Fiori?

Hi!
I really need some advice regd accommodations in Rome. I will be there for 4 days on a quick break in late Oct, and I have a choice of 2 locations for my stay there.
Some info - My husband and I have not been to Rome before. While visiting some of Rome's main tourist attractions are certainly on our agenda, we would also like some time to enjoy the city, ie, explore some of the little streets and alleys, sit by a cafe and have a coffee, that sort of thing. We are also die-hard foodies and love eating like the locals, visitng markets and food shops. Given the short span of time we have, we would like to be in a central area with easy access to the sights and local colour.
The locations - One is on via Purificazione near the Spanish Steps and the other is along via Sora near Campo de'Fiori.
Which do you think would be the better option? Any advice will definitely be appreciated!
Thanks!

Hi,
both location are quite ok. But while reading your post I was thinking more and more at one location that you did not mantion: Trastevere. Trastevere used to be the working class quarter, then became the area of the artists. Today it is very popular among romans as well as tourist, here you will find bars and restaurants at every corner. Although the sight of Piazza Trilussa by night or the Square of Santa Maria in trastevere by day, can look very busy, Trastevere never loses it’s authentic atmosphere!
You will still find the artist working on his painting with the studio door slightly open, or the local “trasteverino” sitting outside his house chatting to the neighbour. If you gaze towards the sky you will see picturesque terraces covering the buildings of Trastevere, almost giving you the impression that the city continues on the rooftops.
Take your time to see this beautiful part of the city, visit it’s old churches, cross the beautiful piazza’s, enjoy a glass of wine in one of the many “Winerias” and maybe rest your legs having a piace of pizza on the staircase of Piazza Trilussa.
