Default Mr.

My wife and I will be on our first visit to Italy in May 2009 for +- 18 days. Because we want to really experience the country and its inhabitants (and also obviously save money!) we want to go the camping option. I have worked out a provisional itinerary and would appreciate comments and ideas!
- Arrive in Rome and spend 4 days (Camping Roma?)
- Train from Rome to Naples (Sleep 2 nights. See Pompeii and Capri)
- Bus from Naples to Sorrento (Sleep 2 nights)
- Overnight train from Sorrento to Venice
-Sleep 2 nights in Venice.
-Train from Venice to Florence and rent car (Sleep 5 nights) (Campeggio Panoramico)
-Train from Florence to Rome for departure back to South Africa

Now what about the areas that we missed? The Dolomites, the lakes, Verona, Milan. Can this also be fitted in somehow? Please help!!! Recommended camping sites will also be appreciated!

Hi Jameswilliam, as same as your plan, I have also started my Italy tour from Rome, really Rome is a good starting point for any type of holidays in Italy, but in addition to Venice & Florence, I have been in Tuscany for 3 days. so if you find time, visit Tuscany as well, it's a beautiful place with so many things to do . Enjoy you stay in one of the Tuscany farmhouses and visit popular Tuscan destinations include Lucca, Siena, Pisa plus Chianti wine region and the wine towns of Montepulciano and Monalcino. The Tuscany Wine Tour is very special in Italy and really I got an unforgettable experience, so you could also try this, Good luck!
