| I am trying to find out the name and any information about the square in Rome which lies between via del Quirinale and via Piacenza next to the Palazzo del Quirinale. You can find the square by copying the link info below into your browser. I have not posted enough here to set this as an active link. maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Via+del+Quiri nale,+Rome,+Italy&sll=37.857507,-95.712891&sspn=31.476076,64.423828&ie=UTF8&t=h&ll= 41.899554,12.488902&spn=0.003426,0.007864&z=17 The square is just southwest of the pin on the Google map and has an equestrian statue in it. Cheers! |

| Hi there, I think you are after The Piazza del Quirinale square which sits at the top of Quirinale Hill, the highest of the seven hills of Rome. From this hill, you have a splendid view towards the Saint Peter's Basilica. There are many things to be seen around the square, which boasts buildings on three sides and a clear view of the city down below from the fourth side. The first thing that catches the eye in the square is a 46 feet tall Obelisk and the 18 feet tall statues of Castor and Pollux and also a fountain known as the Dioscuri Fountain. The statues, which are Roman replicas of Greek originals from the 5th century B.C, once stood at the entrance of the baths of Constantine. The statues were placed here in 1588 by Pope Sixtus V. The obelisk was added in 1786 and the fountain's granite basin was added in 1818. The basin was designed by Rafael Stern and used an ancient Roman shell that once stood at the Forum where it was used as a trough. | No, the square I want is not Piazza del Quirinale. It is over the road from it, just to the east, and via della Quirinale runs along the northern edge of the square. It has trees in it, and a circular path around an equestrian statue which is in the centre of the square. |
