|  what to expect in jamaica Hello everyone, we'll be spending 7 days in Jamaica / Negril beginning of October at Legend Beach Hotel, and we don't know anything about Jamaica! What can I expect of a short stay in Negril. Will I be able to go and walk around and discover the real Jamaica or will it be over touristic???? What about every day life price over there... |

| Re: what to expect in jamaica Just like most areas in the Caribbean, Jamaica has two sides of a coin. In one hand , you have the touristy side, and in the other you have the real Jamaica. Negril isnt so bad for a first time visitor, but as soon as you step out of the resort you will get solicited, so if you haven't been to other developing countries you may get freaked out by it. In my experience, you get solicited anywhere so this isn't an issue. If you meet people people there, you'll get a chance to visit places like Cousin's Cove and Orange Hill outside of Negril and see more of the real Jamaica, which is nice! |

 | Re: what to expect in jamaica Having been to Jamaica many times are you can both likely and realistically expect both touristy (which is not all that bad) and the real Jamaica (which, with the poverty and incessant soliticing can be overload). Don't get me wrong. The vast majority of Jamaicans are wonderful and full of smiles and life but as in many parts of the world, their are issues and problems that plague some of them.
