Something everyone should do at least once. 2) SHAW PARK BOTANICAL GARDENS -An 18th century Great House and later the Shaw Park Hotel is now over 25 acres of bromeliads, ferns, exotic shrubs and ferns. Great view of Ocho Rios with a bar and restaurant too. 3) FERN GULLY -A natural 3-mile gorge that is now a national park. Around 1800 hundred varieties of ferns were planted in the shade of the canopy provided by huge trees. Nice local crafts available in a beautiful setting! Early morning is the best time to see this spot. 4) JAMES BOND BEACH -Island Trading Company is undertaking a dramatic revival project that will soon make Oracabessa a top tourist destination! A 19th century village is being constructed and two new beaches created. 5) FIREFLY - Former home of playwright Noel Coward and now owned by the Jamaican government who leases it to Island Trading Company , Firefly has undergone a meticulous restoration as it occupies a beautiful vista of the Galina Point/Cabarita Island shoreline. 6) NINE MILE - On February 6th, 1945 the “King of Reggae”, Robert Nesta Marley was born in this tiny mountain hamlet. The Bob Marley Foundation oversees his childhood home and the crypt that is his final resting place. No true Reggae Fan should miss this. 7) CHUKKA COVE FARM - From a spirited game of polo to a 3-hour “family friendly” horseback ride in the surf, horses rule at Chukka Cove! Take the mountain ride up Mt. Zion where you can stay overnight at the Lillyfield Great House. 8) CRANBROOK BOTANICAL GARDENS - Nature lovers will find exquisite gardens and an unbelievable assortment of exotic plant species. Tube the river, fishing and horseback riding highlight the activities or just relax among the numerous gazebos and picnic spots. 9) WHITE RIVER RAFTING - Every Tuesday and Saturday night they offer “Exotic Night on the White River” with flaming torches and a romantic dinner with LOCAL wine! Also the home of the “White River Reggae Park” a venue for live reggae musical events. 10) DOLPHIN COVE - Situated on acres of tropical rainforest, this new Ocho Rios' attraction offers close encounters with playful dolphins. There are three activities involving the dolphins, "The Touch Encounter," "The Swim With" and "The Encounter Swim." These activities are designed to bring visitors in contact with the dolphins. Guests can snorkel or just stroll through the rainforest to view the birds. The onsite restaurant offers a variety of meals and beverages 11) COYABA RIVER GARDEN & MUSEUM - This beautiful park and museum is located 420 feet above sea level on the grounds of a perfectly manicured plantation. The word "coyaba" means paradise in the Arawak language. Here you'll learn about several cultures: Taino Indian, Arawak and Spanish. An extensive collection of artifacts and trinkets are the main focus of the museum's exhibits. The stone courtyard will leave you breathless, as will the wide range of tropical plants, flowers and small fountains that decorate the premises. Ideal location for weddings and other events. 12) CALYPSO RAFTING - Jump aboard a bamboo raft and glide down the pretty White River. Go solo, with a special friend or with the family. Your trusty raftsman will guide you on a 45-minute tour. This reputable company has been around for years. A rafting expedition for two includes a stopover for a refreshing swim and drinks. As for where to stay: Consider Breezes in Runaway Bay as an all-inclusive 20 minutes away or Sandals there in Ocho Rios. Also, check the Hibiscus Lodge in Ocho Rios for some moderate priced accomodations.
