internet access in Japan

i'll be traveling to Japan late march for about two weeks, and I am thinking to take my laptop so I can keep in touch..If I was not to take my lappy what other options do I have? Btw, I am thinking of staying in a private home..

Don't expect to see many internet cafes in Japan, I didn't! When I was traveling in Japan, I found mostly hotels have internet access which you have to pay by the hour. I was actually baffled at the lack of internet cafes over there, and btw, Ryokans hotels in Japan don't tend to have computers so be in the know.

I'd suggest taking your notebook, but with the current airport security alert, you may encounter some travel taking one on board so remember that.

Also, you may also have a hard time connecting your notebook in Japan to the phone system, as the ring tone is different and your notebook won't recognize it so you'll need to get someone to help out with this.
