Hi Kend,

I can give you a little background on the SouthPoint but no first hand account.
Next month I'll be down there and can provide more details to everyone.

This 10 month old casino was formerly named the South Coast and once Michael Gaughan took over control he rebranded it South Point. South Point's hotel opened in two phases and now has 1,350 rooms. The 80,000-square-foot casino has 2,400 slot machines, 60 gaming tables, a 300-seat race and sports book and 600-seat bingo hall. The property's key feature, Gaughan said, is the 4,400-seat equestrian complex.

The South Point Las Vegas is along the lines of Mr. Gaughan's former owned casinos the Barbary Coast, Gold Coast, Orleans and Suncoast. The South Point Hotel Casino and Spa is a new casino and looks like it. I'm sure from Gaughan's track record you'll like the place.

Has anyone on the forum stayed there?

I have been to the property, which is beautiful and pleasant, but have not stayed there. Based on what I know, it is a good value for the cost because it allows you to lodge in a nice clean new casino but at a lower costs due to its location a few miles south of the strip.

SouthPoint is located along one of the "hot" growth areas of Las Vegas...all along LV Blvd heading north towards the "Strip" are new developments, condos and some highly anticipated building projects....expect to see the rates of SouthPoint increase in the next few year or two as the projects around it are completed...

i stayed at the southpoint in oct of 06 and i am retruning in late april for another 8 days we loved the rooms and the 42' plasma tv ( didnt watch it much except for news and weather) the service was excellent and the buffet is not bad for the price hey its not the wynn or aladdin but it is above average especially the breakfast we did eat at don vito's we both had the seafood divollo ( shrimp lobster and scallops in a red marinade over linguini and it was excellent) remember to join the slot club we have gotten some great offers in the mail (free rooms, discounts on meals etc) and if you play enough the slot host will even comp you some stuff. they are very helpful so make sure you contact a host before you check out
