| We are planning a long weekend to Cape Cod in April. We have no idea where to stay or what to do there. We are not familiar with the area and didn't realize there were so many different towns until a friend pointed out some on the internet. We are traveling with 3 children 4,8 and 15 years old. We like to be in the middle of the action, and love the beach, shopping, good restaurants and walking. I was thinking of staying in the Yarmouth area but not sure is the best place to stay with the kids. Any opinions would be helpful. |

| The Cape is a wonderful place to spend vacation time with family or Friends it offers many exciting vacation activities. There's something about the feel of being on an island, you are in a special world where time slows, the sun brightens, and the salt air refreshes. When in Massachusetts, there is no easier way of experiencing this phenomenon than with a trip to Martha's Vineyard so don't rule out a pleasant trip to "the islands" in the off-season. Just be sure to check the schedules ahead of time. At the busy intersection across the street from the Oak Bluffs ferry stop is a peculiar monument, and like most things in Oak Bluffs, it's the color scheme that is its peculiar attribute. Also nice to see The Cottage Museum, This museum allows you a rare glimpse at the inside of a gingerbread cottage. It is representative of the more than 300 fancifully designed and painted cottages that line the narrow streets of the 30-acre-plus campground community. East Coast Tours of Cape Cod provides round-trip van service from the Woods Hole (Falmouth) ferry dock to Barnstable Harbor and the Whale Watcher Cruises, Massachusetts Whale Watching. This is a hassle free way to get to the most exciting and wonderful of the Cape's attractions at a very reasonable cost. You said you would like to stay in Yarmouth area, that is also a good place to stay centrally located on Cape Cod, from Yarmouth you can partake in all of the activities of Cape Cod including Beaches, Shopping, the Cape Cod National Seashore, Golf, Historic and Cultural Events, Biking and Hiking trails, Antiques shopping, Whale Watching, Fine Dining, and more, you can visit Yarmouth Zooquarium i'm sure the kids will like that. On the Northside in Yarmouth Port, tree lined historic Route 6A hosts an array of country inns and quaint bed & breakfasts, complemented by antique and craft shops. The Southside along Route 28 offers the hustle and bustle of a summertime resort town, from factory outlet shopping to sea lion shows to the most adventurous mini-golf. Nightlife in Yarmouth is filled with moonlight walks on Cape Cod’s most beautiful beaches, candle lit dinners at the area's many restaurants, and dancing to music for all ages at one of several clubs. Hotels you have many, Ocean Mist Resort -- On the ocean & in your budget. Second floor loft suites and efficiencies available. Indoor pool and hot tub. Oceanfront Resort on Cape Cod . All Seasons Motor Inn -- Voted best Mid Cape Motel by the readers of Cape Cod Life magazine 14 years in a row ('93-'2006)! Open year round offering indoor and outdoor pools, free Continental breakfast, and spotless rooms with all the amenities. Great central Cape location! American Host Motel -- An ideal mid-Cape Cod location only 1/2 mile east of downtown Hyannis. Offering easy access to whale watching, ferries to the islands, beaches, golf, sailing and shopping. Imperial Hotel-Great Yarmouth, Imperial Hotel-Great Yarmouth, The Kensington-Great Yarmouth, Comfort Hotel-Great Yarmouth,The Bromley, Cliff Hotel-Great Yarmouth. I hope this helps! | jackyj, Keep in mind that Cape Cod in April is on the cool, rainy side. If you are hoping to go swimming, look to stay at a place with an indoor pool. With children of your age range, I'd recommend a drive to Provincetown and a Whale Watch Trip. First choice is the Dolphin Fleet Whale Watch Cruise. Even your 15 year old will love it. On your way back from the tip of the Cape, visit the Marconi Station Site in Wellfleet(historic) and the Cape Cod National Seashore Visitor's Center in Eastham. Some seasonal restaurants won't yet be open so you won't have the selection you would have during the summer months. I hope you enjoy your trip but if you are looking for a moonlight walk on a Cape Cod beach in April, bring your winter jacket. |
