high pressure time share sales We had never ever been on a vaction anywhere in our 17 years of marriage so when we were given a free trip to Cabo San Lucas we jumped at the oppurtunity. The first morning we were there we got a phone call at 8am to come to the lobby. Well from there the high pressure sales started. Free breakfast, free drinks, free this and free that. Hours later and too much alcohol we ended up buying a time share. Kinda made us feel obligated to sign seeing how the sales guy spent all his time showing us around. It's a great investment,we'll help you sell your weeks, you'll make lots of money. HA ya right! Well the next morning after our heads were clear we went to the manager and said we had made an error in judgement and would like to cancell our contract. He was mad and said there was no way that was possible and that he had way more money than us and he would tie us up in court for years. We got ahold of the Canadian consulate and they told us we had 5days right of refusal and also told us about Profeco.(Go to Profeco.com before you buy a time share so you are aware of your rights!) We told him we knew our rights and he still gave us the run around. We filed a formal complaint with Profeco and alterted our credit card company of the situation. Well to make this story shorter, months later we recieved a credit to our credit card for all our money. We were one of the lucky ones. What I dont understand is that if the resort thinks their place is sooo great and that you will never regret buying into it why do they not tell you that you have a 5day right of refusal? Why such high pressure the first day? I dont think timeshares are a bad idea, but give a person time to think about things first. Why the "I can only give this deal today" bull crap. If it's that great of a resort people will but into it .Let people enjoy it for a day before giving the sales pitch. The sales people and the manager are not your close personal friends and you owe them nothing. Dont let them make you feel obligated to sign or let them make you feel bad if you dont. It's your money and your life! A vacation is for fun and to relax. Dont play their games. I hope this helps anyone who is going on vacation. We were lucky. Know your rights and stick to your guns!! If in Mexico contact the Canadian consulate if you have any problems and also Profeco if you have gotten caught up in a timeshare you dont want. You only have 5 days from the date of signing so be on your toes.Dont let them tell you any different. Would we go back to Mexico? YES!! Was a great vacation other than that particular resorts sales tactics and bad ethics. I hope our experience can help at least one person. Be carefull, be safe, but above all have fun!!!!!!!!!! |
