Smile Wondering if Mexicans still walking around with weaponry

My mother paid a visit down to mexica about 5 years ago and she said there were lizards walking around in the swimming pool area where she stayed, but they were harmless and kind of nice.

Anyhow, she also said there were police officers walking around with MP5 automatic machine guns just outside the hotel. She didn't ask questions, but I just wanted to say that so if any Canadians head down there, at least they can be informed. Other than that, it was the best trip she's been on, ever.

Greetings,

I have to admit that it's rather unnerving, but yes, police and military in Mexico still walk around with big weapons. In fact, with the increased efforts to fight against the drug trafficking, it's actually more common to see police and military. It's sort of weird for them to be around a hotel though, because in general they're not around tourist areas at all.

hello all,
I was kind of wondering the same thing and then I found this article----

copy and paste to see-----mexicotrucker.com/2008/01/29/mexican-police-still-patrolling-without-guns/

I don't know what is worse, the safety of the officers with no guns being compromised or us being afraid of the weapons they use?!

But hey, I sure loved my visit in 2003----hope to go back soon!
