Default Things to do in Mississippi

Things to do in mississippi.

Mississippi is a land rich with culture, history, and farmland. The state features many historic Civil War sites and battlegrounds and is also known as the birthplace of blues music. It is made up of five main regions and each region will have something to offer anyone who travels there.

With so much on offer you may be spoiled for choice in Mississippi. Why not take a Mississippi boat ride, enjoy the Deep South Antique and Wine Trail, Discover Natchez the oldest civilised settlement on the Mississippi, visit the famous All American Rose Garden which has 740 patented bushes. Explore the Vicksburg National Military Park where some of the battles of the civil war took place or see the herd of Buffalo that can be viewed in the Tupelo Buffalo Park

The Hills Region is the area is said to have been the inspiration to many authors including Tennessee Williams, William Faulkner and John Grisham. It is known for its rolling hills and beautiful lakes. Corinth is an old Civil War town and boasts many Civil War sites as well as the Civil War Interpretive Center. In the south of the Hills Region is the town of Tupelo you can visit the house in which Elvis Presley was born.

The Delta Region is well known for its fertile farmland. Blues Alley also runs right through this area and each year, several world famous blues festivals, such as the Delta Blues and the Heritage Festival are held here. Located around this area there are also several championship golf courses.

The Capital-River Region is probably the most visited region of Mississippi and this is where you will find the Natchez Trace Parkway. This is a scenic trail which American Indians used to connect southern portions of the Mississippi River to salt licks in today’s central Tennessee. The region also houses several cultural attractions including Indian ceremonial burial mounds and Civil War monuments, parks, and battlefields. The childhood home of Jefferson Davis can also be found in Rosemont, which is near Woodville.

The Coastal Region stretches along the far south border of Mississippi. This border is adjacent to the Gulf Coast and it is where you will find the majority of the casinos. In the middle of the northern section is Hattiesburg, one of the state’s largest cities. This city boasts beautiful rose gardens and the Hub Fest. This is a festival which attracts over 70,000 people each year to the over 400 arts and crafts booths that are displayed.

The Pines Region is along the eastern border of Mississippi. Again here you can find more award-winning championship golf courses. Visit the Railroad Museum in Amory as well as the annual railroad festival. Columbus and Aberdeen both show homes from the civil war times. Kosciusko is part of the Natchez Trace Parkway and holds a festival each year that commemorates this historic 8000 year-old trail. The Pearl River Resort is also worth a visit. Here they have two casinos and two championship golf courses. Then in Meridian there is the Grand Opera house as well as the Peavey Visitor’s Center.

It is a fantastic detination for anyone going on vacation. For an idea on the cost of flights to mississippi you can check the Flight Comparison Tool to see the best deals on offer.
