| Re: barrier islands Hi there, Mississippi is home to these barrier Islands which are located ten miles from the northern part of the Gulf of Mexico Ship Island Excursions takes visitors by a ship ferry to the biggest of the barrier islands which is West Ship Island. The excursions to the barrier Islands are very popular as you get to explore intriguing mix of flora and fauna and you are able to observe migratory birds. The Ship Island ferry is operational from late March to middle of May, Monday to Sunday, and departs from Gulfport. Ticket prices range between $10 and $22 but be sure to check before traveling.
