advice for our trip to Amsterdam

We are leaving next weekend for our first visit to Amsterdam. We are staying in Paris for a few days then taking the train to Amsterdam.

To those who have been to Amsterdam recently, do you have any advice for us or tips for must sees? Thank you!

I loved Amsterdam, last time I was there. We stayed near the Van Gogh museum in a quiet little hotel on a residential block.

Public transport is great, bikes everywhere, lovely historic neighborhoods, gracious canals, cobblestone streets, friendly people, good food, quiet upscale coffee shops.

Also, depending on how much time you have, do not forget the surrounding areas such as the old villages of Marken and Volendam, which are worthwhile to see.
