Default going to Amsterdam..what to expect?

I've always wanted to travel to Amsterdam with my family, and I am deciding to do it! All of the pictures I have seen...Amsterdam looks beautiful.

Has anyone actually been there? What is it like? What kind of things are there to do? Appropriate for a family vacation? Possibly any pictures? Thanks in advance for any info!!!

Amsterdam is a family friendly place, although you may feel uncomfortable having your children see the Red Light District.

Overall, don't go to Amsterdam expecting a slow pace of life. Amsterdam is a city so, expect to see bicycling commuters, high rise buildings, street cafes and coffee-houses selling marijuana!

Amsterdam tourist spots are the Anne Frank house, Van Gogh Museum and Heineken factory. If you have time, take a side-trip out to Den Haag or Brussels.

Amsterdam is just beautiful.. I've spent there one year studying and that belongs to the happiest memories of my life..

Anyway (before I get too nostalgic:), do not wait a second and "get your ***" (pardon me for such expressions) over there! Amsterdam is a charming city, especially during night when thousands of street lamps colour everything in faint orange. It's a city of small, narrow alleys, water canals, coffee shops & smart shops:), shopping windows with dancing, half-dressed girls.. and loads of foreigners..
