New York

New York, one of the original thirteen colonies, is filled with popular culture as well as historical venues. Visit the Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center, and Niagara falls. It's a busy city with events held at Madison Square Garden, Time Square and exhibits at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Travel throughout the city is just as easy as hailing a cab or catching the subway and trains.

Post Manhatton Island Marathon Swim

As the heat rises, New Yorkers have *the* way to cool themselves down. The Annual Manhatton Island Marathon Swim is their solution to beating the heat! Many attempt to 28.5 mile sprint through the Hudson River.

This is definitely not for the faint of heart. In many movies you'll find that the river has questionable contents. However, there have been recent anti-pollution laws that have definitely caused a change in the river's contents. So fear not, it's much more cleaner than it has been in years! Here is the annual information:

When:
16 Jun 2007 (annual)
Where:
Manhattan
Opening Hours:
8.30am (time limit of 9.5 hours to complete the swim)

This is a New York event that is surprisingly popular, regardless of the strange encounters. In any case, the course starts and finishes at South Cove in Battery Park City on the Hudson River, just south of the North Cove Yacht Harbour. Swimmers head south around the tip of Manhattan, then north up the East River, counter-clockwise around Manhattan Island. They swim north into the Harlem River, through Spuyten Duyvil, and then south down the Hudson River back to Battery Park City.
