driving across the Adirondack Mountains

Hi,
We are driving to Novia Scotia via the Adirondack Mountains.

We plan to spend the first night when we cross the US border somewhere near the crossing....probably Watertown.

Our intentions then is to start driving around 6 in the morning to drive across the Adirondack mountains, via Lake Placid, wanting to catch a ferry then from Port Ferry to Burlington and then drive onto the town of Mexico on Hwy 2.

We will then stay somewhere around there for the second night.

Then we are wanting to be at St Johns by the 3rd afternoon to catch the latest ferry across to Novia Scotia. The last ferry here is 4.45pm.

Can anyone tell me how long it will take for us to do both these days.
Is it slow to cross the mountains?
Are there any road trip planner sites that can assist us with further trips that we would like to do.........eg.....to give us idea of time needed and kms ect.
