Post NYC mass transit closing due to hurricane

FYI if you're planning to be in New York City this weekend: The mass transit system in the NYC metro area will close beginning at noon on Saturday, including subways, buses, and commuter rail lines. More information is available from the New York Times and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. Mandatory evacuations are in effect for the low-lying areas that are susceptible to flooding, and event permits have been canceled for many outdoor activities, including street fairs and a concert by the Dave Matthews Band.

Post NYC mass transit back to near-normal

It looks like NY's catskills got the worse of the hurricane getting devastating floods. I can confirm that all NYC airports are now open, as well as the upper level of the George Washington Bridge. The Staten Island Ferry and Long Island Railroad is back to normal, though Metro North Railroad that services the northern suburbs and Connecticut still remain closed.
