New York

New York, one of the original thirteen colonies, is filled with popular culture as well as historical venues. Visit the Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center, and Niagara falls. It's a busy city with events held at Madison Square Garden, Time Square and exhibits at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Travel throughout the city is just as easy as hailing a cab or catching the subway and trains.

Default best time to visit NY

Which would be the best time of the Year to visit NY city, I mean, nice weather, good airfares? I know New York has lots of places to visit the whole year, but my daughter really wants to make the most of her money

Well I guess it would depend on what you call nice weather, because as you mentioned, there are a lot of things to do during the year. If your daughter loves the snow filled streets, then winter would be best. If your daughter is more of a spring person then I would recommend in between spring and summer. We've had this question answered in another thread so please click here to get more information.

I think the best time to visit NY would be during fall. You can just hop into a rented limo and see the whole of ny relaxed.

Spring or fall. You don't have to endure the sweltering city heat of summer, winter is great also, but you won't be able to enjoy dining outside and visiting the parks in nice weather.

I find the summer a little crowded and uncomfortable I would recommend late spring or early fall. The temperature is warm and there are fewer tourists.

I doubt that I am going to say anything new here, but it really does depend on how you handle weather.

The winters can get quite cold and the summers quite hot and humid (there can literally be a 100 degree difference at times as it does get below 0 in the winter and over 100 in the summer). And the subway platforms do get mighty hot in summer.

With that said, it also depends on what you want to do. Are you a museum or theater person? Then the winter shouldn't be a problem. Do you like walking around aimlessly waiting to see what you will stumble on? Then spring might be best.

One thing I do like about NY in the summer (as a recently transplanted NY'er that now lives in Costa Rica) is that the locals tend to flee the city in the summer on the weekends. They are off to the Hamptons, Fire Island or the Jersey Shore. This is a great time to get into some of the restaurants you might otherwise never get a chance to eat in. The Hamptons, Fire Island and the Jersey Shore might also be great places to put on your itinerary if you plan on a summer visit.

If you want to see a sporting event (although tickets are pricey) the season would depend on the sport you want to see. Baseball in the spring & summer . . .football in the fall and winter.

Do you like dining outside and watch the city go by? Spring and early fall are best.

If you want to do the Rockefeller Center thing and see the tree . . .then obviously winter/xmas time is for you (but remember that it is much more expensive and quite crowded).

Ideally you should figure out what you want to do which should in itself dictate what time of year you should go.

Hope that helps.
