New York

New York, one of the original thirteen colonies, is filled with popular culture as well as historical venues. Visit the Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center, and Niagara falls. It's a busy city with events held at Madison Square Garden, Time Square and exhibits at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Travel throughout the city is just as easy as hailing a cab or catching the subway and trains.

Smile New York in October

There are four of us coming to New York (and Las Vegas) in October 2007 from England. Can anyone recommend a decent hotel to stay (preferably one that allows smoking - I know, I know!) My sister stayed at the Avalon last time she went to New York and that looks really nice. We will be staying in Vegas for a week and then New York for a week. Will the trees in Central Park have changed to their fall colours? Any information to assist with my first time in New York would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks

The peak time for fall foliage in New York City is typically in mid-October so you should hit it at a great time. I'm not sure of the Avalon but you could also checkout
60 Thompson, They have a popular lounge and restaurant. The rooms are dark woods and full-wall leather headboards gives the rooms a welcoming warmth. Marble-swathed bathrooms have oversize showers, mosaic tile floors, and Philosophy bath products.
Its in Soho on Thompson St. Phone: 877/431-0400

sounds like a great trip enjoy!

October is one of the best months to visit NY...if not the best. My biggest piece of advice is to bring your camera! The only NY hotel I've stayed at was the Murray Hill East Suites. It is also actually in Midtown (as is the Avalon). I have no idea if it's soking or non-smoking though. Great location and a decent value, IMO.

The Belvedere is a great hotel. I enjoyed it during my stay there.
