Smile greymouth

Hi, what is Greymouth like? I might be moving there for work in the next 6 months. I live in western Washington State. Is it as isolated as it seems? Thank you..

hi there,

Greymouth is situated in the South Island’s West Coast and it is the commercial, industrial and communal heart of the West Coast and is the base for many of the region’s industries such as mining.

Greymouth is the most isolated part of New Zealand with only four passes available for road travel. However, the close-knit community makes up for all of this, as the people there are independent and welcoming.

Hi micbro4,

Greymouth is a peaceful town with low cost of living. One of my cousin is now living in Greymouth and I have visited his place recently. The scenic train journey from Christchurch to this town is really awesome. Greymouth is the terminus for the TranzAlpine rail journey and scheduled transport is available daily. You can also travel by shuttle or coach from Nelson, Queenstown and other cities of New Zealand. It's is reached via highway 6 from both the north and the south by a car.

The major industries of Greymouth are mining, fishing, ecotourism & forestry. If you are planning on living & working in Greymouth then it's a wonderful place. Bikes can be rented in the town and you can get around Greymouth easily by bike. Eventhough the west coast region is isolated part of New Zealand, it has all facilities and shopping centres for comfortable living. So, have a wonderful time at Greymouth!

I think you would be bored out of your mind living there for 6 months. The whole west coast is pretty uninhabited.
