things to do in the carolinas

we're planning an early summer vacation and we're planning on doing a road trip from Virgina Beach to Jacksonville to see friends/family at both ends (btw, we're looking to spend under $100 a night for hotels)

We're trying to look for fun stuff to do in the Carolinas in between. We were thinking about trying to stay on the beach somewhere like Myrtle Beach or Hilton Head but don't really know much about the areas at all. We also heard Charleston is a cool city.

Any suggestions?

Charleston as there are lots to see, good restaurants, plus lots of history there if that interests you.

Myrtle Beach is nice, and with lots to do and see and you will definitly get a place under $100 to stay, though personally, Myrtle Beach is a bit commercialized, but just my opinion and generalization :).

f it were me I would stay places like Surfside, Murrells Inlet, or Pawleys island, which are just 20 min south of Myrtle.
