The outer edges of Hurricane Irene are reaching the North Carolina coast today, and the weather is expected to be rough through the weekend as the storm hits North Carolina on Saturday and keeps heading north. Evacuation orders are in place for the coastal areas, and residents in other parts of North Carolina and up the Atlantic Coast have been urged to stock up on emergency supplies.

Flooding, wind damage, and power outages are expected along the eastern coast and there are already reports of gas stations being out of gas. One thing most of us have learned in Florida, when a hurricane is approaching the state, start preparing immediately by getting provisions ready well in advance. Gas up the car, get cash out of the bank because ATM's won't work if there's no electricity, and head out of town to a safer location as quickly as possible.
