There are several stunning beaches running along the coast line of North Carolina. These beaches can be put into sections called the Outerbanks, Crystal Coast, Topsail, Cape Fear and Brunswick. The most popular beaches along this coast are Wrightsville Beach, Carolina Beach, Kure Beach , Sunset Beach, and Atlantic Beach.

The North Carolina Beaches offer stunning white sands and clear blue seas. The shores are peaceful, tranquil and attract visitors from all over the globe. Apparently the east coast has some of the largest sand dunes in the United States. In the past over 600 shipwrecks have occurred in the waters surrounding North Carolina. For this reason 10 lighthouses have been built along the coast. The most famous of these is the Cape Hatteras lighthouse as it the tallest in America at 208 feet high. It takes 257 steps to climb to the top but visitors are welcome to do so.

On the Outerbanks people can choose which island they want to visit based on the activities offered or the atmosphere of a specific beach. There are lots of things to get involved with here from bird watching, the wild life refuges and nature trails. For people who are looking for more adventure they can enjoy wind surfing, giving, and hang gliding. For golf enthusiasts there are courses on the Southern Beaches such as Wilmington, Oak Island and Holden Beach.

The northern beaches have great winds so it is common to see people flying kites here. They are available to buy from many of the shops in the area. Also people might want to try Kite Boarding which is a sport unique to the Outer banks and growing in popularity.

Another popular pastime on the North Carolina beaches is fishing. The collision of the warm Gulf Stream and the cold Labrador currents create a hotspot for all types of fish, and fishermen catch anything from Wahoo to Sailfish depending on the season. From deep sea fishing to pier and surf fishing.
