Fishing for walleyes in the Western Basin can be a tricky one in cold weather as walleyes aren't very active. During the winter months, most walleyes are concentrated again in the Western Basin and ice fishing can be excellent, especially around the Bass Islands

In early spring (March and April), the walleyes start to become more active, reaching their peak by early summer (June and July), which is the best time to fish for walleyes in the Western Basin.
