Just bought tickets to Panama city and this is our first family trip. We two and children with age 8,5 & 2 are staying in PC for 2 nights before heading to Colon, I'm not familiar with Panama city hotels or anything else, so please recommend a safe family friendly hotel in Panama city and trains to Colon, thanks for any suggestions.

hello, I suggest the Torres De Alba hotel and it would be a great choice. I have stayed here twice during my visit to Panama city with my friend and his son. It's a budget hotel with living room, clean bedroom and a kitchen with a washer & dryer. They also have a small pool and even your kids can play in the pool and enjoy the play things around the pool area. It's very close to the restaurants and the Smithsonian's marine touch center. For more info on Panama city hotels, just visit http://www.destination360.com/centra...ma-city-hotels page, you may find good deals. Train is the best way to travel from Panama city to Colon and it takes only from 45 to 50 minutes. But the train runs only at 7:15am from Panama to Colon everyday, so it's a good idea to buy your tickets in advance and make your trip comfortable as the train is often booked full. The cost is US$20 for oneway. This train journey offers you the excellent views of Panama Canal and the tropical rainforest. Hope your kids will enjoy!

Colon is about 45 miles from Panama City and you're traveling with children,so I suggest you to rent a car to Colon, your children will explore this area more while traveling in a car.The train is only available once at 7:15am, so car would be the best. have a good time:)

Hi, you can reach Colon by air within 20 mins but train nearly takes an hour, so prefer flight than train. When you reach Colon, take your children to Portobelo which is only 40 minutes travel by car. The historical monuments and the Portobelo National Park is a must see places in Portobelo. The national park is made up of 86,000 acres and includes marine areas. It is the nesting ground of four different species of marine turtles, including the endangered Hawksbill, so don't miss this during your Panama tour. Few months back we did a tour and really it was an unforgettable trip, hope you too.
