Peru: best place to retire?

I am planning to retire soon and I was thinking that Peru could be it? I have had a fortunate life and lived in some of the most desirable cities like Washington, D.C and LA. However, I don't wish to retire there. Where in Peru would anyone recommend/ suggest?

I'd say that Peru is a fantastic place to retire, I certainly love going there on a vacation so I can see why people would want to retire there. People are so friendly and the quality and slow-pace of of live is great.

If I had to choose where to retire in Peru, I'd say Lima, mainly because it's safe, there are plenty of amenities and people are helpful, kind and respectful.

I would suggest Arequipa. It is a beautiful colonial city with a warm climate year round. It is a lot less busy and with lower crime than Lima. The Sacred Valley outside of Cusco is getting more popular for people to live in as it is much lower than Cusco and therefore warmer and you are less likely to suffer from altitude sickness. Cusco is a difficult place to live because of the altitude.
