Peru

Experience the festivals of Peru all year round. Take a walking route on the Inca Trail , which leads to Machu Picchu, a town sitting at 7,000 feet above sea level with great Inca monuments. Visit the town of Cusco and get a taste of pre-Columbian cultures or see the artifacts at one of the many Peru Museums.

Default Huaraz?

My husband and I are planning to visit Peru next month. We have extra time on top of Cusco and Machu Picchu and are intrigued by the Andes. Are the lakes, glaciers and hot springs near Huaraz as neat as they sound? Would it make sense to rent a car and drive up to get a peak at the Pacific and be able to take our time?

Hi there,

Huaraz is the favourite area to do trekking in Peru as it is known to have the most beautofil mountain ranges and trekking routes. Huaraz is not visited by the tourist crowds, so its off the beaten path.

Where do you want to rent a car? Driving in Peru is not that tough if you know Spanish. Road Maps are rare and road signs are bad so you need to know how to ask for direction and how to handle an emergency case. I always reccomend taking a 1st Class bus or a flight. I assume you will spend time in Lima, thats where you get to see the Pacific.

Hope this helps,, let me know if you have more questions. I work at a travel agency and you can also contact us for more profesional advice and quotes.

I don't think it's wise to rent a car in Peru. You could easily get lost there, almost all the roads are bumpy and don't have signs.

I do entirely agree with not renting cars it depends on the person and how adventerous you are. I've rented cars in Peru and many other countries and find I like the freedom its affords in not being tied to a bus route and time table great. But be forewarned anything could happen such a police extortion, hijackings, flat tires, etc. I've had them all happen and I'm still alive!
