Default Re: Travel to South America!

Hey! I am trying to go to Peru next week... I am flying into Lima from Atlanta, GA. I have read all the postings and been to several websites recommended, but I don't know where to start!! My husband and I will be staying about 5 days and want to see as much as we can without overdoing it. Should we rent a car or travel by some other means? We want some down time to enjoy ourselves, but we also want to see the scenery and do a couple of fun things as well. Thought maybe you could help....... THANKS!

Well you won't see much by renting a car. I would spent one day as a stopover in Lima, fly directly to Cusco (1day) and visit the sacred valley (1 day), machu picchu (1or 2 days), back to cusco and Lima (1 day). Short trip but do what you can. Peru for Less may have a short or custom tour that would suit your needs as well.

If you try jamming more in a quick side trip to Lake Titicaca would be nice and fly directly back to Lima.

Dont rent a car, if you dont know spanish and if it is your firs time in Peru I dont reccomend it. Maps and road signals are not exactly Cuzco's strenght.

If you have 5 days this is what you want to do:

Day 1:
Early morning arrival into Lima's international airport.
Catch next flight out to Cuzco (1 hour flight)
If you arrive before noon, you can have time to catch a Cuzco City group tour.
*overnight in Cuzco

Day 2:
Full day Sacred Valley tour.
*overnight in Machu Picchu

Day 3:
Train to Machu Picchu
Guided tour of Machu Picchu
*overnight in Mach Picchu

Day 4:
Morning free to re-enter Machu Picchu
Afternoon train back to Cuzco
*overnight in Cuzco

Day 5:
Fligth back to Lima.

IF you have more free time, then I reccomend spending free days in Cuzco which is simply a pleasure. There are tons of things to do such as horsebak rides, fishing trips, or simply relax in the main square.

Hope this helps...and feel free to contact me if you would like more information or a pacjkage.
enjoy!

Default Re: Peru 5 day tour advice

Yep,
For Argentina I would reccomend focusing on Buenos Aires and Iguazu falls. Argentina also has the Patagonia but that will take you more days and plenty of more money as domestic flights are very expensive.

Here is my personal Arg itinerary.

Day 1: arrive in BsAs and relax with some good wine
Day 2: BsAs City Tour
Day 3: Free day to enjoy Buenos Aires
Day 4: fly to Iguazu in the morning and have the falls tour that same day. Overnight in Iguazu fall.
Day 5: fly back to Argentina, and then fly back home.

Hope this helps!
