Default What you learn at Manila Zoo is that animals go crazy

I just traveled to Manila, and at the Manila Zoo the only thing I learnt about animals is that they can literally go crazy from confinement! Mali, a Sri Lankan elephant, has been trapped all alone in a small barren enclosure since 1974 in Manila Zoo, and she spends the entire day walking around in circles.

Don’t you think they should close it?

Unhappy Re: What you learn at Manila Zoo is that animals go crazy

I have being hearing really bad things about this particular zoo for a while now, and it is a pity the authorities are not doing something about it.

Yes of course they should - But everyone can put a stop to the loneliness and misery suffered by these innocent animals by boycotting the zoo!

In the wild, many animals roam over territories that measure hundreds of square kilometers, but the entire Manila Zoo is only 0.055 square kilometers. Even the biggest zoos fail to provide the space, exercise, privacy, and mental stimulation that animals require, and the facilities do almost nothing to fulfill their other complex needs.

Mali needs to be retired without delay. The Elephant Sanctuary in the U.S. can offer elephants vast spaces to roam, ponds to bathe in, fresh vegetation, foraging opportunities, and the company of many other elephants.
