would like to go to Algarve in Jan

Im thinking about going to Algarve in early jan since I wasn't able to getaway this year. Would the Algarve not be a good time to go in Jan? is weather ok for swimming?

It is a bit cold for swimming in the water or getting a tan. If you're planning to do water sports that involve you going in the water, you won't find great temps for this I am afraid. However, you can do other activities like sailing, canoeing, biking, rock climbing and horse riding.

January is also a great time of the year to catch Algarve carnivals such as the Festival of the Smoked Sausage where you'll be able to sample good local cuisine.

Even if weather isn't as great for swimming, it's still warm enough to enjoy it a great time there. Also, hotels in Algarve will be at a bargain on January:)
